Choosing a GP

Home -> COMMUNITY -> Choosing a GP

Finding a GP with whom you feel comfortable is a very personal decision. There are many different things to consider when choosing your own GP and/or general practice.

  • Would you prefer a GP of a particular gender, age, culture and/or spoken language?
  • Are you looking for a GP with special skills or interest in a particular field of medicine?
  • Do you want the practice to be close to home or work?
  • Would you prefer a small or larger practice?
  • Do you want the practice to be close to other services e.g., bank, post office, other medical services, transport?
  • Do you need car parking at the practice? Is this available?
  • Does the practice's opening hours meet your needs?
  • Do you understand the GP/practice billing arrangements?

It is often a good idea to ask friends and family members for recommendations. GPs are also listed in the Yellow Pages.
